They came to earth - Pestilence, War, Famine, Death - four horsemen riding their screaming steeds, racing to the corners of the world. Four horsemen with the power to destroy all of humanity. They came to earth, and they came to end us all.

When Pestilence comes for Sara Burn's town, one thing is certain : everyone she knows and loves is marked for death. Unless, of course, the angelic-looking like horseman is stopped, which is exactly what Sara has in mind when she shoots the unholy beast off his steed.

To be completely honest, I didn't have high expectations going into this. I stumbled across it on my kindle and it was on sale, so I though sure, why not. (it's not like my TBR list is long already.)

Oh boy, was I surprised with how much I liked it.

Now, imagine that you're living in a world full of selfish, mean and cruel people (it's not that hard to imagine, is it?)which are so blind to see the obvious. Their actions are going to have consequences, so God decides to send down to Earth Four horsemen. Each one of them have their purpose, and the first one to serve is Pestilence.

Pestilence is the conquerer (or so he calls himself) and his task is to ride on his steed and spread the plague all over the world. So, naturally people started evacuating.

"Humans have done a perfectly fine job of destroying themselves without my help. I am just here to finish the job."

Here enters our main character. Sara Burns. Headstrong, smart, determined female, once a firefighter, that decides to stay back and help people evacuate and save themselves. She attempts to kill Pestilence, but oh...our dear plague spreader cannot die and our dearest Sara becomes his captive.

"He ignores me, hoisting himself onto his horse.

"You're not going to kill me?" I finally ask.

He turns around, that mess of a face looking embittered.

"Oh no, I'm not letting you die. Too quick. Suffering is made for the living. And oh, how I will make you suffer."

This book was a journey for me. From WTF moments to AWW moments to okay, we people really are cruel creatures. Which was my main thought throughout reading this adult novel.

Laura Thalassa has done an amazing job with showing us how badly we treat one another and how we do not take care of our world until it is too late.

NOTE TO SELF : STOP TAKING EVERYTHING FOR GRANTED!

Alongside of Laura amazingly writting about two different sides and two completely different charachters and their opinions on humans and humanity, her talking about it was humoristic and intelligent, yet easy to read and follow.

"Ahead of me Pestillence guffaws. "Only a human would come up with such a ridiculous solution."

"I was mocking you!"

"I thought mockery was supposed to be insulting?"

Sara's and Pestillence's love story was slow burn filed with misconceptions, differences, second chances and understanding(if we are not going to talk about her trying to kill him a few times and him trying to understand what was her thought process behind that) but worth it. Oh, so worth it.

"This is not lust I feel, dear Sara. And I hope you are half as frightened of it as I am."

So now, my question for you when and if, you decide to give this book a go is, do you think humans are worth saving? I am still trying to figure out my opinion on it, months after reading this book. A few chapters would make me rethink, but then our cruel ways of dealing with each other would smack me in the face. (good luck with reading chapter 44.)

Until next review, Val.

I do hope you'll like the book! It was a good read for me. And I love your way of thinking. And your positivity. I am still learning how to find it.

I will be giving this one a try. I still honestly believe people are worth saving. You wouldn’t see a sprout in a desert and crush it. What makes life living, worth fighting for is for each and person’s potential for greatness. For even destruction and death gives way to renewal and progress. It’s easier to say look how obviously bad it is, than putting in the effort to find the softer good that lasts far longer than the pain and absence. 😊
